Game GUI too sober

on: November 25, 2015, 10:15:25 pm
Hi everyone,

I'm the developer of the game Planet Centauri, and after many attempts for upgrade of our game gui, I request some tips because I'm totally blocked.

My first try is the skin we actually use, it's simple and sober, but not very nice...

Our second attempts have some interesting issues, but there are also some problems.

Also there are two big contraints:
-the slots for items should be light colored
-the global colors cannot be too light or too dark, because the background may vary

So if you have some advices, corrections, tips, or ideas, you will be a great help to us.

Thank you for reading.

Well it's kinda unimportant but I looove thoose fruits!
The golden GUI frame looks good too!
(I don't have any critic , so this post is kinda unnecessary)

The golden frames look nice, but are too busy in combination with the items. How about having the golden frame around the item area, but not between the item slots?

Thank you for the suggestion,
I did some tests but it seems I'm very limited for the colors...

I think the one pixel separation is better.

Any ideas?

Hello,
after a long time I found a new "style" without too much change.
What do you think?

yeah, that looks way better without having to sacrifice the simplicity of the first design.

I think now it looks much better, but I'm not sure about thinner lines at borders. Maybe they could be as wide as lines between items?

Also in my opinion it looks better with those shadows from one of earliers versions - it makes an illusion of 3D inventory. With this one coloured lines it's a bit... boring? Maybe You could add some details not only in the corners of the whole box? Some golden things or something like this?

By the way long time ago I remember I played a demo of "Planet Centauri" from GameJolt and I was really delighted by the artistic design of background. Great work!  ;D

I like the golden armor set. It reminds me of the kid chameleon samurai.  :D
Although for some reason I see a stray blue pixel on his eye slit, I see the same thing on the other armor set as well, so it suggests to me it is supposed to be his eye? yet, on the image on the head slot, you can see that's where material is supposed to be. If that eye is supposed to be there, I would recommend not including it, as it would look much more natural/realistic darkened with the rest of the helmet.

Hi,
It's been a while. I've tried to make a new version, again.
I'm not a fan of the buttons on the bottom and the scrollbar.
If you have some suggestions :)
