on: August 12, 2014, 09:50:57 pm
Hello there ppl,

I am independently working on an endless runner game intended for mobile platforms.  Setting of the environment is a Street from Paris.
Need some crit on some of the environment work done so far. Camera angle will be approx. as in the images attached.

This is neither animation nor pixel art. Also, use these tags when posting images:
Code: [Select]
[img][/img]
That having been this looks pretty good to me. As this is outside my usual medium, I really don't have much to offer. The main thing for me is the camera position/angle. The road (assuming that's where the player is running, not the rooftops) should be more towards the center of the playing field, not sitting in the corner.

EDIT: My bad, I thought this was the animation forum, not the low-spec forum. Disregard my first sentence.

I will keep your comments in mind as i go on with my project.
Regarding image tags, I did try tags but they weren't working or somehow it wasn't displaying images in the preview.

Regards and Thanks

Yeah - what PsylentKnight said - where is the player char gonna go?

The buildings are cool. But could they have less dark outlines all over and therefore have less contrastyness and therefore less eye drawing powerness?
The actual running path is boring, compared to them.

You're also getting nasty moire patterns in your street texture. You don't want that. Too much grainy detail for that size and sharpness.
No mip-mapping or distance blur/smoothing going on in this game?

Clouds don't match buildings' style. AT ALL.
Too flat, billboard looking while the buildings have nice full 3D volume.

Why is the top half of the screen sky?

Mathias,  Thanks for you comprehensive and helpful reply.    :)

That screengrab was from within Maya and not of the running game thats why some of moireing and no mip mapping was happening.

Street texture will be replaced with some less noisey and cleaner pattern.
Definitely these clouds need to go, thanks for the headsup.
Sky also doesnt take so much space in the game cam.

Attached is image from within unity.  (UI Hud is placeholder only)
Character will be walking/balancing/running on the elevated rope.

Thanks

I just want to point that this doesn't read like Paris at all, except the leftmost building in the last image which has the correct roof and front wall detail.
You're probably aware of this anyway since it is the latest addition  ;)
