Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] moonlit snow-covered forest, 5 colors. composition?
« on: October 19, 2018, 05:02:41 pm »

"Finished", I think! 5 colors, 256x144.

Helm: Hey! Sorry I never responded in a timely fashion, I tend to let critique and commentary stew for a while while I tease out my direction moving forward. I took your advice on the sky to heart and made some adjustments: i can't change the canvas size, though, so for now I think that's the most I can do. I forgot about your cloud suggestion... not sure there's room for it now, but i'll experiment with it (or relegate it to subsequent rooms in the area).

This is because you started at the left corner and rendered fully, you didn't go general to specific for the whole piece from the ground up
idk if its the best habit in the world, but it's just how i've always done it; it's hard for me to progress on something unless i can feel certain about it in at least some respect, which means fully rendering individual pieces like so.

thank you very much!

c+c?

c+c?

specifically, i'm having some second thoughts about the composition here, particularly around the narrow section from the moon downward. any other critiques or comments welcome as well.

Pixel Art / Re: My Old SNES Work: Mario is Missing Landmarks

Excellent work: I like Notre Dame a lot, but I think the Arc is actually more striking to me; the pearlier shades, sharp contrasted form and the shifting skyline and visible city in it's center do a lot for me.

hey! I just wanted to say thanks for all of that: that was kind-of the general plan going forward, but your insight has helped a lot in shaping what that process looks like. so thank you again, eishiya!

It's getting a lot closer to done, though there's still some stuff i'm tweaking. Things I might touch up that look done already:
-branch out the shape and flow of the hair on the top left side of the head. [probable]
-chin and jaw line
-neck
-might even redo the left eye?

i'm considering adding the impression of clothing -- maybe something kind of amano-esque, with some white clothe and jewels/ornament.

any thoughts thus far?

Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] mock up for 2d platformer, new to pixel art

I really like the colors! It might be a stylistic choice, however, but I feel like there can be some minor issues of readability here between elements; increasing the contrast or boldening the dividing elements can help to change this. I like how it looks regardless, though.

thank you, that's some excellent advice!

this is still super heavy-wip, but i tried pushing the hair back some and rounding out/fixing up the shape on the left side (will still be refined as i work through it) and some other fairly minor alterations like making the neck less straight. is this an improvement/a more workable base, or should i push out more?

I took that to heart, I think, and made some additions along with a lot of progress on the hair.

still work in progress. I'm a little concerned about the structure of the hair only because it's kind of gone through a lot of minute revisions (as with the face) and I want to make sure I didn't lose sight of it.

any C+C? i'm looking to have some light green Terra/Rydia/Yoshitaka Amano-like hair, but i can't find any styles that feel like they match with the proportions quite right, and the proportions themselves are starting to look strange to me.

I've PMed you! I find the idea interesting and I think my work as a background-focused artist would benefit it greatly.
