Pixel Art / Re: Two sprites and a skull

On the shaman buste, I think the style from the chest/torso differs too much from how you render the face (which has more shading). I think it can be very interesting to keep all your sprites very flat, sort of cell shaded. At least I would choose a uniform style. Right now the torso looks unfinished, because the face has more shading.

What is the object supposed to be? Not knowing what it is, makes it hard to give feedback.
For example the lighting appears very flat, but maybe the object is supposed to be flat?

Hope this makes sense :)

I am a newbie myself so :)  I really like the colors and detail, if you make the pose stronger it might be a winner!

My suggestion would be to try all variations. You will learn from it and discover what works and does not work.
Sometimes just doing it might surprise you, instead of only thinking/analysing things.

Good luck!

Pixel Art / Re: [C+C] Character Designs

Out of the 3 I really like the "Walkman Girl" the best. It reminds me of The Silent Age game.
It has that retro/hip feel. My suggestion would be to exaggerate more. The walkman is hard to spot and its the "defining" trait of this character. Make it pop out in a oldschool red or creme color (look at old walkans) and maybe have the chord and red earmuffs on her head. I remember having a Sony Walkman with bright red earmuffs :) That would look great against her dark clothing i think

The bottom right image in your OP is your design right?
It is definitely much better than the top left (dark colors). I agree that you need enough contrast for the character "to read" well in small size. Good work !

The canvas color in your video was part of the image.
You worked directly with that base color to determine your character color choices.
I understand the appeal of going borderless.
But by posting the characters on transparent, the Pixelation backdrop has blown them out a lot.
Color readability is relative to the other colors it shares space with.

Yeah totally agree I noticed that too. Like I said im a total newbie :)
Its quite interesting to see how I solid background color makes the pixel art "sit" well or totally not at all.
I found that changing the bg color later is tricky, and now I know why :)  It makes sense.
I was also trying to add like a tilemap background to Jabba's Palace but somehow it doesn't work as well as a solid bg.
I will keep trying and learning :)

Started on some Jabba's Throne Room characters. That Sly Snootles is a pain in the but to get right. LOL :)
Here's a timelapse recording I did while working on it: https://youtu.be/5xKVOc3vwvw
If you enjoy them I can probably do more

had to comment on these,, they are simple fantastic.. well done..
agree with the outline comment, either have them on all or none.. i recommend none. (or at least color them according to what they are outlining)

Dam cute things dude really.. have you animated them? do startrek next please and thankyou ;)

Thanks!!

I have never animated before. Honestly I only started doing this yesterday out of boredom :)
I looked into the better tools like GraphicsGale but im on Mac and have no Windows machine in the house.

Im going "no outline" now with the next ones. Ive also recorded while working so maybe I can post a timelapse video sometimes.

Hey

Lovely stuff. I am totally new myself so I won't try and give feedback.
I do like the pose of the bottom one with the staff upwards better. It feels more "active"
I think you have a good base to work on! Maybe you can use some lighter pastel colors to give more "aztec/warm" feeling.
Right now its pretty dark/towards black, leaving little detail to show?
