Pixel Art / [C+C] Character/style with thick colored lines.
« on: May 08, 2017, 06:20:31 pm »
Over the years I've always been intrigued by the idea of doing something with a specific style:
-The use of thick lines
-Saturated palette with colored lines on most characters/interactive objects
-White as a base value for lots of tones (skin, rock, etc)

I sat down and tried to actualize this idea over the past day or two. the left character is where I started, while the two on the right are where I'm at now. On the right is a small scene where I'm fiddling with what a tileset would like like.

My question would be, am I onto something here? Or are the colors too bright/ irritating to look at with so much white/brightness. I feel like I need more input!

General Discussion / Low Res Art stream.
« on: July 25, 2016, 10:32:45 pm »
Hi, I'm Lumpy and I have a new stream on twitch creative where I draw Low resolution art. I got my start in digital art by doing loads of pixel stuff quite some years ago, and most of my stuff is currently heavily influenced by it. I'd love it if some pixel homies checked out the stream, as I'm looking to dip back into some pixel art again in the near future.
The stream is : https://www.twitch.tv/lumpytouch

here are some samples of the stuff I've done:

Pixel Art Feature Chest / GR#121 - Cartoon RPG - Gameart
« on: November 03, 2012, 10:34:20 pm »
Something that I'm working on. It's a city-tile set. At the moment I'm adding more city-like objects so it's a wip. My goal is to:
1.) make small readable tiles as close to 16x16 as possible, for that old school rpg feel
2.) emulate the feel of a Saturday morning cartoon.

The challenge for me with this tileset is that rather than keep it flat, I want various elevated planes of terrain. I'm not sure if I'm communicating the planes as best as I could at the moment and I could use some feedback.

Much thanks!

Pixel Art / [WIP] Idle Stance for Platformer NPC
« on: September 26, 2012, 12:45:38 am »
Hi there! I'm fiddling around with an idle stance for an npc game, which is essentially going to be the template for most of the chars in the game. Stylistically I had originally wanted the characters to have stickman joints, but it was a challenge to communicate the limbs, so I only today gave regular limbs a shot. What works here? Are there any adjustments anyone would make/ recommend to the full figure and/or the stick figure? Thanks!

Say for example, do you like the bigger shoes? etc.

Pixel Art / [WIP] Sprite for Rpg
« on: August 05, 2011, 01:25:57 pm »
Hello, I'm working on a 320 x 240 rpg and I'm trying to draw up some sprites at the moment.  I'm wondering if anyone can give me some advice or show me how to improve upon this sprite i've made based on the character's appearance in cut-scenes.  Are you all able to make out facial features, etc?

Pixel Art / [WIP] Wee RPG Hero
« on: March 29, 2010, 07:30:21 am »
Hey everyone.  At the moment I'm trying to straighten out the outfit/style of the main character of an RPG I'm making.  Your preference among the selection or advice in general is appreciated.

The game itself is a Medieval Rpg, but it's a parody of the genre, so styles can be modern or themed or whatever.  The character himself is a 'knight' in that he uses sword-fighting based combat (though I'm trying to brainstorm a way in which his fighting style is unique, if not a bit stupid).  A design that doesn't scream 'bland knight' would be appropriate.

Thanks!

Pixel Art / RPG Tree
« on: February 28, 2010, 03:48:23 am »
Meant for 16x16 tiles.  Hoping to get some C+C, particularly on the larger tree.  Not too messy is it?  Going for a saturated cartoony style.

Pixel Art / [WIP] RPG Sprites from Concept Art
« on: October 22, 2009, 05:46:02 pm »
Just looking for a critique on some characters for an rpg I'm making.  Basically it's coming down to me interpreting the concept art I've drawn into size restrictions.  You'll notice the use of whites and gray outlines along with a bit of anti-aliasing outside the borders (this will be modified depending on the backdrop), these kind of fit into a 'hand-drawn' aesthetic that I'm going for.  If anyone wants to critique or edit anything, please go ahead, I'm here to learn.

Firstly, some antagonists and their concept art.  I'm still contemplating the girl's palette, it's too saturated right now.

Recent concept art of the hero and a sprite with his older look.  Having a bit of trouble interpreting his hair on to that sprite.

What do you guys think?
