General Discussion / How much does tile size matter do you?
« on: September 02, 2019, 01:18:21 am »
I see it in almost every single wanted ad for pixel artists.  They ALWAYS seem to mention tile size, often times not even showing any samples.  How important is tile size to you when you're considering joining a project?

For me, it does not mean much at all.  Smaller tiles will generally mean less work per asset but it's not like it changes if I can work or not.

Unpaid Work / [unpaid] Looking for collaborators and/or team to join
« on: September 01, 2019, 09:19:12 pm »
Professional web programmer and artist here and I am getting the itch for a creative outlet. Just took a look at Katana ZERO on Steam and it gives me that feeling that is half inspiration and half guilt for not putting more effort into game dev by now. I can essentially fill any role on the team. Not to say I am a prodigy or anything but I'm well versed enough in all of these areas to not embarrass myself.

Please feel free to email me at jschweihs@gmail.com if you are interested in collaborating and/or have an open position on your team.

Unpaid Work / Dev Seeking Talented Members
« on: September 20, 2018, 12:27:18 am »
Seeking:
Any talented and experienced individuals who are interested in collaborating on a game in progress. I'm most interested in finding someone to brainstorm ideas with who can also bring quality art to the table as well. The main skills I am looking for are creative thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate without an ego. I plan on finishing the project by myself but I'd gladly speed things up with the right small team.

Personal Summary:
I am an artist, programmer, and musician currently employed as a Full Stack Web Developer who is interested in having a project to focus on over the winter. I also have my bachelors degree in Computer Animation and I've been programming in GameMaker on and off for about 4 years. I have additional experience in web marketing as well. I started on this project a long time ago but I had to make a tough decision between pursuing finishing this game or finding a stable career. I went with the latter with the intention of coming back to gamedev once my life was in a better position, and here I am!

Game Premise:
Metroidvania in a magical setting. Travel through the different elemental realms, upgrade abilities that allow you to explore further.

What is already done:
- Just about every character animation
- Several enemies
- Several tilesets
- A working demo
- A bit of concept art
- A couple funky tracks

Please send me an email at jschweihs@gmail.com, skype me at SchweeDubulus, or shoot me a message here in the forums if you're interested. Only considering devs that are 18+ and located in North America for practical reasons.

General Discussion / Any Environment Artists Willing to Mentor?
« on: June 10, 2017, 01:58:24 am »
Hey,

So I am working on a game, and any good game needs environments!  I consider myself a decent character artist and animator but I am really struggling with environments.  While I enjoy the critiques on this forum, I think I would benefit more from an informal online buddy who is willing to take a look at my WIPs and brainstorm with me on improvements.

I don't think I could offer money at this point unfortunately but if you help, I will certainly return the favor one way or another.  Hit me up on Skype at schweedubulus if you think this sounds interesting to you!  Thanks a ton guys!

Pixel Art / [C+C]Wizard Portrait
« on: June 03, 2017, 06:33:36 am »
For the record, I am not exactly sure what C+C means but I assume critique...ok...heres a wizard portrait I did two years ago, and again today with some coloring updates.  I am curious to your thoughts particularly in the palette.  Thanks!

Pixel Art / [WIP} Alien Environment
« on: May 31, 2017, 05:34:49 am »

Bleh.   I can't say I enjoy doing environments but maybe thats because I don't feel like I really understand what I am doing.   I plan on adding way more of the 'trees' among other things but I want to have the ground/terrain looking solid before I focus more on other stuff.   You can see I haven't filled portions of the ground w shading yet because I am not sure if I like what I have so far.  Any advice is much appreciated.

Job offers / Pixel Artist/Animator Seeking a Team!
« on: May 30, 2017, 11:58:23 pm »
Hey all,

I am seeking out either a programmer or an established team to join and make some games.  Ideally looking to be setup as a pixel artist/animator. I feel stronger with characters over environments but willing to work on both. Open to other aspects as well such as discussing design and programming.

Very eager to make the next jump forward into gamedev! Working in GMS2 and 1.4 as well as a bit of Unity.

I have a few ideas of my own if you want to brainstorm, or I am fine with working on an already established idea if its decent.

Check out http://www.jakeschweihs.com to see some samples of my work.  Hit me up at SchweeDubulus on Skype or jschweihs@gmail.com to chat.  Thanks guys!  18+ and US time zones.

General Discussion / Just Discovered This Site
« on: May 30, 2017, 05:15:25 am »
Hey all,

Been on and off w pixel art for 4-5 years now.  I also do 3d stuff but pixel art is my favorite.  I consider my strength to be animation.  My biggest weakness is environments.  Ok.  So what do I do now that I'm here?  What do I need to know?  Who's the top dog that I should beat up prison style?

I got my website http://www.jakeschweihs.com that I will put in the portfolio section soon but I have a lot of art that I haven't put up yet.  Anyways, glad to be here!
