Pixel Art / Snail (C + C)

Hi there,
I made this snail a bit ago, and I feel pretty good about the drawing itself, but I'm not crazy about how the animation turned out. I wanted his head to go back/away from the viewer, and then forward/towards the viewer. I'm not really sure how to make that read. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
I was also trying the make the shell turn a bit. Do you guys know of any tutorials that help you understand the way something would rotate?
