Pixel Art / Swamp level. C+C needed
« on: October 12, 2013, 07:12:52 am »
Here is a mockup of a swamp level. Grid based on 16x16 tiles. I've inserted game units to give understanding on scale and proportions.

I've made this level, but now I see that it's structure restricts me at a field of gamedesign. First of all, the level is plain flat. I can't make ground shifting, because of the logic of still water. The only way I can bring up jumping is creating a some kind of alternative path over branches. But I feel restriction, because too long truncs ruins aestetics and feel weird. And no idea how to populate branches with appropriate obstacles.
I could't come up with convinient destroyable path blocks, like bone pillars in Castlevania, so it's another trouble - I don't know how to stop a player from running across avoiding battle.
Maybe I'm thinking in wrong direction, and try to fill lack of level mechanics by graphic measures.
I need some serious critique and advice. Is there a way to improve gaming concept of a level?

Pixel Art Feature Chest / GR#140 - Magic Fire & Ice - Animation
« on: May 23, 2012, 06:25:22 am »
Hi! Currently I'm training in fire effects. The idea was to make several types of fire attack for a mage in platformer game. But I've realized, that I don't know what I'm doing.
This is what I call "Fire Touch". You can read the idea, but the shape dynamics makes me hesitant.

Upd:

Ultimate magic "Fire Dragon", a lump of fire in a shape of a dragon's head. But I can't find a way to make plausible burning. What can be done to make it more interresting?

C+C please!
Upd: As an experiment added a sort of afterburn.

Pixel Art / [Finished] Platformer bg: Waterfall.
« on: April 23, 2012, 09:20:09 am »
I've been working on this for two days and kind of on the verge of despair now. Palette is the problem, I've tried various variants, but still can't make a decent colour/contrast scheme. I can't figure the problem myself. Maybe there is a lot of dark tone, maybe the lighting is off... Arghhh, my head hurt.
Any advice/help on this?

« on: February 08, 2009, 09:35:49 pm »
Hi!
Today I was motivated to create a 2d fighter. It took me about 6 hours to make this stance.
Tips and critiques are welcome.

Pixel Art / Rotating tank
« on: September 11, 2007, 09:28:23 am »
I was so fond of Dodonpachi that decided to exercise in animation of cannons and tanks.
This is what i've got so far. I have a question. Is there a rule or method to make more accurate proportions to sides in different projections?
I think that this one below which is turned on 45 degrees is a bit smaller then it should be, isn't it?
