Pixel Art / dragon fruits
« on: June 06, 2018, 07:06:10 am »

hey dudes, been working on some dragon fruits lately. it's been pretty reliant on my reference but i still feel like it's a good practice

i was hoping to comb over the clusters and bring some things together and possibly better optimize the palette, but im not holding my breath as i feel a little over my head. thanks for checking it out though  ::)

Made this throughout all of today, something I was happy to do as I rarely have motivation to do pixel art. A bit higher resolution than the little things I usually like to do, and I like it.

Definitely interested in some critique.

Also spent a little time trying to improve a knight and dog sprite I had made many weeks ago:

Pixel Art / Rock/Boulder + Tree
« on: March 09, 2017, 03:44:29 am »

I've never pixelled a tree before but overall I like how it came out. That said, over the course of this entire day I felt like I was really stumbling my way through it and would appreciate a critique and/or a good tutorial (haven't been satisfied with any of the ones I've found.)

My priority was once again to only use full clusters.

General Discussion / Stupid Question Regarding Tile Sizes
« on: January 14, 2017, 07:53:05 am »
Hey, this is a topic that everyone seems to approach as a no-brainer, yet I've for some reason failed to understand. Keep in mind I've had this question for months and am only just now finding the urge to actually reach out for help.

Basically, I don't fully understand the RPG 3/4 perspective. In Cyangmou's DeviantArt tutorial on "cubes", as well as many other guides, I see a block drawn as follows:

Each face of the cube is 16 x 12. But what would the actual floor tile sizes be? In most guides, they seem to actually refer to the 16 x 24 block as a 16 x 16 one.

Here is a mock up of how the cube looks on top of 16 x 16 tiles:

But there are clear issues, for example, assuming both resolutions were snapping to the same grid, any two horizontal rows of the red blocks couldn't really touch each other due to the 4 pixel gap between 12 and 16.

So logically I thought, why wouldn't the floor tiles be 16 x 12 themselves? Seems reasonable, aside from the fact that I've literally never heard of any game using rectangle tiles.

Someone please explain why i'm so incompetent.

Pixel Art / Ferret
« on: January 05, 2017, 05:04:24 am »

Looking for tips on how to make the ferret more detailed at this resolution, any problems I have going on right now with it's anatomy, and any help making the animation look more natural. Right now I think it would help to show the arms and legs from it's other side peeking out from behind a little during the run.

It's supposed to portray a black-footed ferret by the way.

Pixel Art / Girl

The posture feels awkward, the eyes look undefined, I'm having trouble shading the body properly, I can't seem to define the fingers in this resolution, and the shoes are WIP.

Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the thing, or some advice on pieces like this. The reference used was a picture of my partner, can post if interested.
