Pixel Art / Street Fighter demake MegaDrive
« on: September 15, 2017, 08:34:50 pm »
Hello,
A few weeks ago, I got together with some friends during a weekend and we did a retrojam. Target: the MegaDrive.
I thought I would take my tiny street fighter mockup and turn it into a real playable game.
This actually ran on a real mega drive, but development was not pretty!
Here is the original mockup:

and here is the link to the video of the process:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSKAn5RrfAw

and here is the spritesheet for Ryu

And also here is a video with the game actually working, obviously needing work, but sadly that is the nature of gamejams.

Please note some animations are 1 frame, because of the console's limitations, which are RIDICULOUS for nowdays, but indeed a joy to figure out and work around :)

Pixel Art / Traffic Light in the rain
« on: September 22, 2016, 10:37:21 am »
This is an image I made for the @Pixel_Dailies account on twitter.
This time the theme was Traffic light and almost imediately I had this idea of a traffic light in the rain, with the red light reflecting on the rain drops. So came up with a layout and composition to allow to see the traffic light and the reflection as well.
and then animated it in 4 frames.
The rain is 4 different layers of rain, just for randomness and they have cliping masks with red on them to simulate the drops being lit by the traffic light.

General Discussion / new game released - rgb pixel bot
« on: June 30, 2015, 11:50:14 am »
Hey guys, a game I worked one was just released. You can get it for free for your iOS phone or Android, and very soon for the windows phone as well.
its a skill game, but I did everything in pixel art, and we "wrapped" the game around with a fake handheld console we decided to call "indot digiboy 3000".

Google Play - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.indot.RgbPixelBot&hl=en

App Store - https://itunes.apple.com/en/app/rgb-pixel-bot/id1003746543?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo%3D2

I hope the mods don't mind me posting, but I only did cause it was done in pixel art.

anyway, we are going to add more characters so the game will be updated, so suggestions are welcome.

I don't know if anyone has posted this before, but I really like how the guy digs into the development and dealing with limitations.

Pixel Art / Mikasa Ackerman - progress thread
« on: February 23, 2015, 11:14:10 pm »
Hi!

I know you guys are probably fed up with attack on titan, but I just recently started watching it, and Mikasa is definitely my favorite character.
She's badass, cute, sexy, and it doesn't help that she looks almost the same as my ex-girlfriend, which makes watching each episode a "bitter-sweet" experience for me.

So, I decided I should make a sprite out of her, in the style of capcom's new street fighter series.
I'm making it like if she's in the middle of a special attack or something, but its basically what she does in the show.

this is the initial sketch, I'll keep posting more progress as I have it.

there's a few changes I might make. I'd rather have he bend a bit more at the waist, and the face well, I still haven't learn properly how to draw it.

Pixel Art / Terrain tiles techniques
« on: February 23, 2015, 01:52:32 pm »
Hello guys,

one thing that has always hunted me was the issue of terrain tiles, and the fact that its very hard to find "Techniques" or "Methods" or creating them.

in this image I have two of the most common ways that I make terrain tiles. I usually prefer the bottom method as it saves more world space for the game elements to be on, but the top method actually allows for more creative transitions of the terrain.

so, do these methods even have a name? at all?

I'd like to know more about it, technically speaking, but there's seems to be hardly any info on it.

Pixel Art / Avatars
« on: February 20, 2015, 09:22:06 am »
This is a series of avatars I made for a group of users in another forum as an exercise because I didn't have any pixel art projects back then.

some were based on images, others were based on images the user had made.
Some were animated like:

General Discussion / [FREE] Udemy course on pixel art for video games
« on: February 11, 2015, 12:21:34 pm »
Hello guys,

I haven't posted in here in a long time, but I haven't stopped making pixel art.
I've just today released a pixel art course on Udemy, and since I learned almost everything I know from pixel art in this forum I decided it was the right thing to do to give away some free coupons.
the course costs 49 dollars, but I've created 50 coupons so you can get it for free

---EDIT---
pm me for a coupon, as someone has posted this original coupon online on another site which may have cost me a few sales :\

here is the teaser for the course:

if you do take the course, and go through it, please leave a review in the end.
So of you might already know what I'm teaching, but I believe that for the beginner, intermediate level, there is a fair amount of cool info to get!

please enjoy it!
