Hi there everyone!

We are an indie game development studio currently looking for a highly skilled pixel artist(s). You would be required for a variety of pixel art work on an indie game that is currently in development.

We require that the pixel art must be very high quality with a focus on detail and environmental atmosphere.

The game represents gameplay and visual inspiration from old school top down adventure type games such as Zelda A Link To The Past / Zelda Minish Cap, Secret of Mana/ Secret of Evermore, Chrono Trigger, Terranigma, Illusion of Gaia, Legend of Oasis, Alundra.

We are looking to create an art style personality that is more high detailed/quality then the games listed above. Please look over these game's art styles before applying. I often receive applicants who send me emails with little to no work to show of this type. I need to see actual work that can prove they can handle this art style. Providing as much information as possible in your initial email is very helpful at helping when responding.

We are looking to hire an artist who specializes in Tile Sets.  I cannot stress how important to us to find a pixel artist who can achieve the style required for our tile sets. I would even prefer a pixel artist whom can be completely dedicated to making tilesets for our environments. This could also include backgrounds if needed for certain maps. Tilesets will also need animated features for the map to help bring the environment to life.


Shown below is an early mock up of an area from one artist who I worked with for a little while. Currently we have been working with 32x32 for our size. This reference is mostly to show an idea of map art style and character sprites.





This game is going to be quite large, we have planned at this point roughly about 6-7 Worlds, which will contain a large number of maps per world. This is going to require a large number of Tilesets, which is why I'm looking for a specific pixel artist to handle tile sets. You can expect lots of work, so discussing payment is important as hourly might not be the best approach. Still it is helpful if you can provide your rates hourly as well prices for combining many tasks into a "package price".

I am also searching for a pixel artist who can handle sprite animation for both characters and monsters.

If you can handle both that's even better but I would most likely prefer to have an artist who specializes in either sprite work or tilesets / scenery so they can focus on one only. Consistency is key here so please include your work experience and ability to handle different types of work at the same time.

We are developing is a combination of Adventure style game play featuring a top down view combined with elements of RPG styled combat mechanics such as spells, leveling and damage system. The project has been in development about a year and is progressing nicely. Currently we are using the working title "Born of Dreams". The game is a spiritual sequel to a title originally released on the SNES titled "Secret of Evermore". We are working to create a game that is unique yet takes inspiration from the classic art style and mechanics of the original game but will be vastly different by the point of completion.

The Team

We are very serious about this project and our team is committed and passionate about what we are creating. The game will be huge and with that comes a lot of hard work, taking on a task of creating a massive world with detailed environments that has a retro art style. The idea of having loose ties to the original making it a “spiritual sequel” it will allow us to take a step back into the world seen previously but it will be entirely fresh and different personality and vision.

The Design & Gameplay

The game will combining an adventure type controls with RPG type damage system. Everything will be real time and require the player to react and plan his attacks with timing and aim. This style of game play which is similar too old school Zelda combat but with a really interactive environment along with magic "Alchemy" and a leveling system, advanced combat. The game will be full of challenges and puzzles with dynamic game play not seen in the first game at all.

We are looking to combine a retro feel of the original game with an update too the graphics, it will be completely in 2-D with certain elements of animation done with 2.5-D effects. This will result in a really vibrant game with a deeper atmosphere which was so important to the original game. A theme of darkness and ambiance will be the foundation of the design of this game, maps will be deeply details and filled with enemies that make the environment come to life. Keep this in mind fellow artists!

We are looking for a pixel artist who has good synergy with the project and art style.  A good amount of progress has been made constructing the engine & code. We are in need of pixel artists who handle tasks in a timely manner since there is a lot of pixel work that needs to be done. For anyone interested in the Tile Set Artist position it will be currently paid and we could discuss individual rates but for more info on this please contact me. We are looking for an individual who primarily would handle all Tile Sets and works well creating detailed environments in a 3/4 perspective in the style of the game described above. We are working to create a game that is unique, yet takes inspiration from the classic top down art style and mechanics of the action adventure rpgs but with a whole revamp of how you play them while maintaining all the retro goodness.

The Team

We are very serious about this project and our team is committed and passionate about what we are creating. The game will be huge and with that comes a lot of hard work, taking on a task of creating a massive world with detailed environments that has a retro art style. Currently we are a small studio but we believe its about quality not quantity. We do bring in additional help when needed to move things along.

Essentially we creating an entirely original take on where the story could have continued but with brand new scenarios and characters.

Everything will be real time and require the player to react and plan his attacks with timing and aim. If anyone is interested we are actually looking for 2D artists right now since all other positions are filled on the team as of now. A lot of progress has been made and we are trying to push forward but there is a lot of pixel work that needs to be done.  What are really hurting for is a skilled Tile Artists but is there is more work to be done, in order of importance this what we are lacking help with if anyone is interested.
