Hey guys, I really loved Battle of Olympus, so I put together a little mockup of the game as I would have wanted it look, aiming to enhance it.
EDIT. If anyone uses Pyxel Edit, here is the working file:

But I was thinking, does someone want to pick up on this and keep on improving it? Please do, I'd love to see peoples edits.
No restrictions other than 16x16 blocks and keep it the same resolution.
In general, I was trying to increase the fidelity of the scene by adding more colors, breaking the NES restrictions.

Character pose looks a bit stiff! The HUD is badass looks really cool. 8)

The character was the last thing I made on the scene after 5 hours straight of pixel powering. I agree with you. I also think there is a lot of noise in the cave patterns. They are have no variations and the cave ceiling is the same as the ground. The cave wall with the door needs to be more solid/brighter to give a greater sense of depth.

Looks good, only thing that feels 'off' to me is something about your brightest tiles in the background. Something between the red/purple that isn't reading correctly. I suggest doing a quick test with different hues and brightness to help distinguish each color more.

Pretty good.
Just one question: is he holding a chicken leg? (joking, it just dont looks like a club)

Yeah I think it looks like a deep fried drummie :)

massive improvements over your very first post.. in particular the background and ground rocks.. but you know you had nice highlighting on your previous post but now you have blue?.. I am pretty sure your last edit with the light brown looked a bit better.
regarding the club, well did you consider to angle the club very slightly?.. I just feel walking and holding a sword upright like that seems a bit rigid/stiff.. anyway here it the tilted club idea using a rather succulent spit roasted turkey leg, and a garlic french stick.

I really like it slight angled, I also agree with you about the hilighting. I'll need to make a wall, closer to the character next. I also don't like the coloring of the character yet. Tycho, your turkey and French roll comment hahah
