Title: Ooze Movement C+C
Post by: Sharper333 on May 11, 2017, 02:09:00 am
Love to get some feedback on the movement. Feels really stiff for an ooze. Jump is only here as a complement/reference to his walk movement

Would love feedback on shading as well.
Edit: Was able to recover my over ooze "walk" animation. Don't know which I like better.

Gotta have em squish outwards when they bob down! Keep volume consistent! And consider a slight 'trail' on the slime!

Gotta work on the slime trail next. Don't really know what that would look like though ha  :lol:

Step one: layer a small green circle on the ground on a layer beneath the sprite

Step two: Move it around until it resembles a slug tail

Step three: Tweak the animation in various ways to add more squash and stretch, with some fun particles for visual interest

So with shading a game sprite you want the light to come from the top, that way you can mirror the sprite and not make it look like the light source jus switched sides. I think what you have now works as well, it looks like the light is coming from the front (front  like into the front of the screen, not front of the sprite), which doesn't shift the light source either when the sprite is mirrored.

As for your shading I think you did a great job, the only thing that should be changed imo is the highlight, it shrinks too much, Its good that you make it change, but this is too much.

And as a giveaway:

Dang, even cuter. I dig. Moved a handful of pixels around on the third frame. He looked like he didn't lose much height for all the width he was getting.

Love the "slug tail" no way I could have made it look that good, or even come up with it at this point.

@CFKaligula

Thanks! Glad to know I don't have too much to go for my guess work on shading. By highlight do you mean the lightest red color or the "white" bit in the upper right corner?

It's really less difficult than you think! I really just layered a circle behind the blob, moved it around, then traced the outlines over it in the original layer to connect it.
