Title: Dash animation
Post by: leriaz on January 06, 2017, 06:11:55 pm
Hey folks.

I'm trying to create a sort of dash animation for a character.
This is what I've got so far:

Since it's going to be a fast one and running takes over before and after, there's no need for much attention to detail.
I sort of tried to take elements from HLD's dash, but not quite.

It looks good enuff in-game, though, as I've only but started animating stuff this month, surely enough it can be done better.
Any suggestions, ideas on how you would create such a dash animation?
I'm going for "zooming speed/fast - blink/teleport but not quite that" + afterimage.

Keep the leading edge solid. Effects like this are usually achieved through programming stuff though, like they'll trail recolored sprites behind like the dashes in street fighter do.

Indeed. That was my original approach. I just drew a trailing sprite of the same frame, blended the colors and gradually decreased the alpha. But I just wanted to do a sprite and go for something maybe a bit more complex/stylized.
