The holidays are almost upon us, which means it's time to get ready for the annual Secret Santa!
For anyone new to Secret Santa, the idea is that everyone involved gives and receives a gift. For added suspense, the person who has you (your santa) is randomly assigned and remains a secret until December 24th. Here at Pixelation, we create pixel art for one another. Check out the past two years of presents here (http://pixelation.org/index.php?topic=11376.0) and here (http://pixelation.org/index.php?topic=9665.0). Exciting stuff! If you are interested in participating, keep reading!
IMPORTANT THINGS:
- To join this year's Secret Santa, post in this thread. Post something along the lines of "I sign up"/"I'm in" so I know you want to participate. Please only sign up if you know you're going to able to complete your gift. There are grave consequences for making your partner sad on Christmas! Specifically, being temporarily banned and not being able to participate in next year's Secret Santa.
- Make sure you haven't missed anything in this thread before you sign up, specifically the important dates, so you know to plan in advance if you'll be unable to submit before the deadline.
- To give your Santa an idea of what to make you, give a short list of likes and dislikes. You can be very specific or broad, but be aware this is all your Santa has to go by if they don't know you!
- eldiabolito, alkaline, Jakten, and SolidIdea may NOT participate this year because they failed to submit a gift last year. Do not let this be you!
IMPORTANT DATES:
- November 11th~23th - Sign ups!
- November 24th - a PM with your partner's name will be sent out to you, start early, and plan even earlier!
- November 25th~December 22nd - Try to finish your gift sometime in here so you don't have to rush anything. You've got close to a month, so make it something really special!
- December 23rd - Very last day to send in your gift!
- December 24th - PRESENTS!!!!

I got my partner, what do I do now?
-Make them a pixel gift! If they didn't specify what kind of format they want, feel free to make them any incarnation of pixel art. It's up to you, and what you think they'd like. You can make them a mockup, animations, sprites, you name it! If you have time and are capable, you could even make them a short little game instead of a mockup. If you're worried about time, don't complicate things, do what you do best for your partner.
But I'm going to visit family right around the deadline... What do!
-Send it in before you leave. The 23rd is the deadline, but submissions will be accepted from the time you get your partner's name in a PM until the 23rd. It's never nice to have to cram that close to Christmas! (believe me, I almost got banned for pulling that last year. :-X )
So I worked on the present, but it's not done! Will I still be banned?
-WIPs will be temporarily ok, but don't let it come to that, or you will get a strike! It's better they have your WIP under the tree than nothing, however please finish it shortly after or there will be repercussions. After all, I'm backwards santA and I have no qualms about adding your name to my naughty list!
I think making a present for so-and-so would be really fun, I wish I was their Santa!
-If you finish your present early, you are welcome to make gifts for multiple people. It's totally okay, spread the holiday cheer! Just please concentrate on your partner first. C:
There's a low spec forum, can I make a lowpoly piece for my present instead of pixel art?
-if you wish to do a lowpoly piece, it is allowed as long as there is a focus on pixel art, such as in the texture. This was the ruling from another year as well. Please remember we're primarily a pixel art forum, and while it's allowed to do lowpoly, that's not the focus of this activity, the pixel art is. Spend as much time on your model as you would if you were painstakingly AAing a pixel piece or whatever...
Gift Wrap!

When you send in your gift, designate one of these wraps. A1, B5, etc. If you don't care or forget, I'll pick a random one for you. This gift wrap will be displayed on the 25th linking directly to the gift you made. You can have fun and hint at the shape or color of your image by selecting an appropriate wrap if you care to. Just a thought!

I'm in as usual!
I like the unknown. The deep sea, space, anything that hasn't been explored and has the capability to house life we've never seen before.
Also, I love it when a piece has a lot of atmosphere. Basically, mysterious stuff interests me. Besides that I also love mech's, cephalopods and other sea creatures.
I love post apocalyptic and sci-fi noir themes.

As for what I like? Um... I'd be satisfied with pretty much anything. I suppose I like bright, vibrant colors, and like sci-fi/fantasy stuff.

I also like:
Low saturated colors. High contrast is fine but I like a dull,calm, and peaceful atmosphere. I think low saturation helps accomplish that.
As for animals. I think bears,birds, and octopi are cute.
Love retro/low res stuff.
Hate/dislike:
The beach. It's usually hot there and as I stated before I prefer the cold.
Bright colors. Something easy on the eyes, please. :)

I'll love whatever is made, but for the sake of easing the vague creative burden on my secret santa, here are some ideas to run with:
dinosaurs
propaganda posters (would be fun to turn whatever is made into a blown up poster for my office)
cartoony characters
Another idea that I'm now suddenly falling in love with as I type would be something that I would use to troll my wife with; we have an inside joke in our house involving this strange fleece horse blanket. We are unsure of as to where it even came from, but we have had it for the last 4 years all the same. For whatever reason, it makes us laugh (it's a blanket with a gigantic picture of a horse on it... it's just kind of absurd!) So we enjoy hanging it up, hiding it, boobytrapping an area to make it fall into view when the other person walks by, replacing shower towels on the rack without the other hearing so that the horse blanket is there instead, you name it. This has been going on ever since we got it, sometimes once every couple of days, sometimes after a month since the last 'horsing' incident. So if my santa would like to join in on this joke to play on her, he or she could pixel the horse blanket however they would like to interpret it - any style or design or representation of it that they'd have fun with just so long as it is recognizably that horse blanket graphic (using a predominantly red backdrop and a horsish head entering the frame from the neck up stage right)

I like dark surrealism, abstract palettes that have some basis in reality, high contrast, the human form, and minimalism.
I do not like anime, cliches, dull palettes, torture horror (see Saw) or startle films (see Paranormal Activity).

I like cute black-haired girls (with weapons !), steampunk machines, dark places and shiny mock-ups, old video games references, big monsters, big robots, big zombies, tyranosaurus in F-14s.
I love ballsy hue-shifting, textured dithering and strange clusters. Check the work of Illke, Mrmo, Adarias, Helm or Christoballs.
My absolute favorites video games are the two Bioshock. Draw me a Bioshock thingy and I will love you forever and ever.
I don't like over-dithering, pieces without composition, dolls, dragons, anime-typed villains, fantasy landscapes, low-contrast and boring palettes.

Hi! I'd like to participate. I'm new to the forum but joined at the suggestion of a coworker- pixel art used to be somewhat of an obsession when I was younger, and I'm happy to be getting back into it.
I like: meat (all kinds, bacon in particular. Steak is good, too), food with faces, cute creatures/monsters, t-rexes, killbots, and katamari damacy.

Sorry about that! I might have accidentally selected it when I pasted in a B or D name or something. You're the only one. :P I check the numbers daily to make sure everything is up to date, so don't worry about not seeing your name on the list during signup, it'll get fixed if anything goes amiss. In addition to that there's also a separate non-BBcode list that has everybody that I can run a comparison script against the forum's list with, if it ever comes to that.
Anyone with any problems in the future please PM me instead of posting here though, keep it focused on the signups.

Stuff I like? I like swords. Huge swords (samurais are cool). Pokémon also occupies quite a nice chunk of my mind. I'm a Nintendo person.

I love Christmas (nothing too religious please), portal 2, Cats <3 , RENT (namely la vie boheme, Christmas Bells), bright vivid colors, optimism and adventure, magic, monty python, the human body (mostly outside of it ;-* ), people, pretty faces, singing, scenes with lots of things going on in them, low color count, between 7-17 colors s'il vous plate, palettes that look like rainbows, realism, surrealism, cities, Shanghai (Nan Jing road in particular), monkeys... Bad Monkeys by Matt Ruff. Minority Report, the name Alice. <3
I hate anything along the lines of cars guns sports... DX .... Ihatepokemon,minecraft,mylittlepony there I said it. Isometric, furries, anything unsettling or scary, anything cartoony (anime is fine, just stick to realism), ugliness, anything cliche and stereotypical, blank spaces.
Any wrapper is fine. But I like originality, and if you have time to make your own that would be brilliant.
but ANYTHING IS FINE, I'm not expecting everything from that huge list, just do what my last partner didn't. :C
